Mr. Umholtz
is a Senior Research Associate with TIER ONE and an industry recognized
consultant serving automotive manufacturers and suppliers worldwide.
For 15 years he was Director of SRI's business strategy studies of
the transportation industry covering the U.S. automotive industry;
diesel engines; commercial trucks and trucking; large gas engines;
a dynamometer test subsidiary; a major US auto company's long-range
problems; industrial gas turbines; general aviation; military vehicle
electronics; tires; aircraft tires; wheels, and brakes; recreational
vehicles; and anti-friction bearings. He was responsible for US automotive
market analysis, industry overviews, plant location analysis and strategy,
aftermarket, sourcing, and product evaluations. Subjects included:
starters, alternators, radiators, brakes, water pumps, carburetors,
filter products, electronic controls, sensors, exhaust systems and
other hard components. Major studies were conducted to determine "Channels
of the Automotive Aftermarket", "Positioning for Growth
in the Aftermarket". International projects included technoeconomic
analysis of diesel passenger cars, automotive electronics, new technologies
to 2010 and worldwide vehicle fuel consumption prospects. Mr. Umholtz
has worked for Aerojet General Corporation, Hydraulic Press Manufacturing
Company and Farnham Manufacturing Company, and Wright Aeronautical
Corporation. He has a B.S. in mechanical engineering, automotive option
from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with additional studies
in aerospace and propulsion from University of California, Los Angeles.
